Waiting for his ears...

Everyone knows that I am definitely NOT a patient person (especially Chuck...I can't tell you how many times he says "Pee Wee, just be patient".) Well, of course anything that has to do with my kid, I am DEFINITELY not patient. When Christian failed to come on his due date, and I had to wait almost 2 weeks to have him, I wasn't patient. And God knows I certainly haven't been patient with anything since he's been here, especially concerning his hearing.

So, we waited almost 9 months for his diagnosis...that was hard enough. Waiting these next 10 days for his hearing aids to get here is KILLING me. They can't come soon enough! I can't wait to see my little boy's face the first time he hears his Daddy and I say "I love you" when he has his aids on. I pray everyday that they will do the trick, and our little guy will be able to hear speech sounds like any other 9 month old. I know I have my hopes up, but I also know that aids aren't our only hope and there are other things we can do for Christian so he can hear. I know one day he will be able to. I just hope that day is sooner rather than later.

Hi! I found your blog on...ah...Deaf Mom's Blog, I think. I'm so sorry that you've had the stress of Christian's diagnosis and now have to wait even longer for his hearing aids! It will be worth the wait, though...I would love to be a fly on the wall and see his little eyes light up when you talk to him! :)
You're right...if hearing aids don't work, there are other options...I've been reading a bit and it sounds like you've done all your homework already...that's awesome! I have a CI myself (getting my second one in a week) and that was MY solution...although I did great with hearing aids for 30+ years before I needed it!
I am enjoying reading your writing, and Christian is an absolutely adorable baby...wow!
Hang in there :) I've been waiting on one thing or the other CI-wise for the past 18 months...and STILL haven't learned patience...oy!

Hello,

I found your blog through Deaf Mom's Blog and enjoyed reading your articles. I'm deaf myself and as I read your tidbits of information, I felt myself transported back in time, looking at my own mother as she struggled to deal with her frustrations, pressures and stresses of life, plus those that accompany having a deaf child.

And you have so many more resources available to you today than I did growing up, so Christian already has a head start in life. I think I will start referring parents to your blog to give them some idea of what life is like after they discover their child is deaf.

If I may give you spot of advice, it's this: don't let anyone tell you that there's "ONLY" a certain way to educate or teach your child to adapt to the world. There are far too many options today to "settle" for what other people think.

Good luck and I will pop in from time to time to watch Christian's (and yours) growth.

You're on the right track. Keep on truckin' ..

:o)
