Anything for a language opportunity...

Look what we did for 25 minutes today on our walk....

I think boys are hard wired to like big yellow dump trucks and dirt. Christian kept saying "ugh", "ugh" (that is how he says truck), and was signing up a storm. Maybe we should skip all of our pricey classes and just hang out at construction sites all day.

Cute! How do boys know things like that? And girls know that they are supposed to like pretty things and play quiet.

I'd take him to a construction site or airport (if you have one close by) and ask him questions like "what is the truck doing?", "where is the airplane," etc. and get him to talk! Best therapy ever is in the "real world!"

I do think boys are wired for loving trucks/airplanes/etc. Thomas is crazy for any type of truck and/or construction vehicle. Every now and again I hear a quiet "r" when he says "truck".
These boys of our are amazing!

Hi Christian's Mom,
I have been reading your website for the past week along with other mom's with deaf/HOH children websites - they have all motivated me to start my own (texaskennysblogspot.com). I am Aiden's mommy and Aiden (my St. Patty's Day baby who is now 2 mths) has been diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss. I would love to get in contact with you through email. I'm trying to build my community of mommy's with deaf/hoh children. I'm seeking guidance, support, and build relationships to help get through all this from people who have been there. I'd love to hear from you! You have a wonderful story and a beautiful boy! My email is mjk_tjk@yahoo.com. Thanks so much! Tammy

I am willing to bet he feels the vibrations from the construction site too! I was always feeling the movements from those big toys :)

Couple of things here: love the elmo...my son has just now at age seven watched his first cartoon. We aren't big on tv either but he's never watched a cartoon (guess it's hard to understand them when they are so animated) but he's finally watched a sponge bob cartoon, and loved it! Great listening opportunities thru the tv. Especially Seseme Street. My kids did like Barney(ugh!) because of the songs. They would sing "clean up, clean up". Okay on the heavy equipment; went on vacation one year to the Smokey Mtns...I was pregnant and Gage was age 2. When I got back home, all the pictures I had taken turned out to be lanugage shots: a crane, all sorts of heavy equipment, bridges, etc. I was like "hey, were we even there? I see no people!" Oh well, moms do what they have to, to teach those little ones. He's adorable.
