In Search Of...

Just a warning, this a vent! :)

I usually don't have this hard of a time shopping for Christian. I hit up Gymboree, Baby Gap or the Lands End Shop at Sears and always seem to find the perfect outfit for him.

I just went to 6 stores today looking for the perfect Fall coat for him. Sure, I saw a bunch of cute ones, and there are many different options available. But, they all have one thing in common: They are lined in FLEECE. And why would I hate cuddly, soft and warm fleece you ask? Well, the possibility of the static electricity from the fleece zapping out my kids processor is enough for me to avoid fleece all together.

So, if anyone has any suggestions on how to keep my kid warm this fall without frying his processor, let me know :)

Rub his processor and his head with a dryer sheet. This is what I do with my girl. It really helps with the static, plus she smells fresh as a daisy ;-)

I used to worry more back in the day than I do now...we do dryer sheets but Gage has on a fleece jacket right now. Brook's isn't all natural materials either. Don't worry, buy what you want, and just don't pull it over his head. He would be cute in anything anyway.

my son wears fleece all the time and we've never had a problem...2 years, no issues...the CI's are tougher than that; it would take more than static from dryer to mess up the processor.

Hmm.. the things you never have to worry about when you just have hearing aids! I wonder if the old-fashioned "puffy" jackets create a lot of static? Might be a bit too warm for fall in your neck of the woods, though. Fleece seems to be the most common material used in jackets now!

Hey, found this one at LL Bean- might not be warm enough, though:

Add Toes to the list of kids in fleece. I had her in wool at first, but it was just so uncomfortable for her.

We've never had an issue - two years and counting. When I notice her hair is sticking up a bit, I spray the hood and collar with water to dissipate the static. So far, so good.

I didn't know about static electricity vs. CIs. Now I do! I hope its something we'll discuss more at our device discussion in an few weeks. Thanks for posting this! AJ's Mom
