My parents left yesterday after a really wonderful but whirlwind of a weekend. Chuck headed to SC to celebrate one of our good friends' bachelor parties. It was a game time decision, and I am so glad that he went. With my parents here to keep an eye on Christian and I, I think he felt more comfortable leaving.
Christian had a blast hanging out with his grandparents, and I was so glad to have my folks here. Usually when they come, it's to help with one of our signature blow-out parties. But this time, it was all about relaxing and just spending time as a family. As always, Nana and Papa came bearing gifts. The got him the cutest monkey from Build-a-Bear that CAME WITH A HEARING AID. I mean, how cute? LOVE IT. Christian really got a kick out of the Fisher-Price Lawnmower that they brought him, and I was happy that my Mom could help me with my various sewing projects that I had.
The monkey seems to be feeling ok. We hit a bit of a rough patch on Saturday, so we skipped our class at Imagination Stage, and yesterday he was extremely fussy and irritable. I hope he is just trying to adjust to all the changes that are going on right now. His incision is looking great, and we head back up to Hopkins on Tuesday for a surgical follow-up. After that, we're just sitting and waiting for activation day!
I'm really looking forward to this evening. I have a little get-together planned with the Margarita Mommas. Even though I stayed up until 2am this past Friday drinking wine with my parents, Eri, and The Crafts, I need a drink and I need to unwind. I've been a bit on edge, and some old emotions are creeping up regarding Christian's hearing loss. I felt a bit more at peace last week than I do now. A lot of it is that I don't know what to expect, and I hate to not be in control.

Awesome, and bubbles are fantastic for speech! Actually straws, pinwheels, dandelions, anything that teaches them breath control. Glad he's doing well!
I hope the wine served you well :). Although we haven't been through the CI process I can relate to the ups and downs of it all. Not being in control is the toughest for me as well. Just know you're doing an amazing job negotiating a steep learning curve and your grace through it all is nothing short of amazing. Hope to see you on Wed at the DHOH high school panel - it's my favorite of meeting of the year.
You are doing a fantastic job so far! Living with a hearing loss is not a thing that you can control but I feel that you are doing everything possible for the little guy!
