Elmo

I thought it would be easy to escape the "Elmo Obsession". I was wrong. My kid, who has NEVER seen an episode of Sesame Street in his life, is now officially ALL ABOUT ELMO. It's not that I don't LOVE Sesame Street. I really do. I learned my first signs from Linda Bove on the show. I just try to limit TV in general in our house, especially since my profoundly Deaf toddler doesn't really get much benefit from it right now.

One of the Margarita Mommas gave Christian an Elmo right after his surgery. Then my folks followed with several books and dolls. And now the rest is history. Don't get me wrong, I'll take any spoken word from my monkey. You'll hear him in the video say "Elmo", as well as do our sign for him. I fingerspell out E-L-M-O, and Christian tries to as well.

I thought maybe "Please" or "Thank you" or even "Mommy" would come before "Elmo"... I know wishful thinking:

Haha! That is so adorable! You really need to post more video.

I don't know what it is about Elmo. It amazes me how kids react to him.

Toes was the same way. She took to the books and dolls way before the videos. She'll still only watch 5 - 10 minutes of TV and she's done. I love it!

I just found your blog and your son is SO cute and hearing him say "Elmo" is amazing. My daughter has a profound loss in her right ear and a moderate/severe loss in her left. She gets her (first ever) hearing aid on Monday. Hearing that your son can hear enough to learn to speak with such a hearing loss has really peaked my interest. We adopted our daughter 8 months ago and didn't think she would ever hear (thought she had a profound loss in both ears). Your son speaks now with one hearing aid....wow! Amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Haha! I loved Seaseme Street growing up but I have to thank our generation for not putting out those elmo dolls when I was growing up. I was all about the ALF! I find that many kids don't watch Seaseme Street or Mr. Rogers. I thought they were classics LOL!
