Another little miracle...

Yesterday, like any good AVT Mommy (Val and Wendy, are you proud of me? LOL), we were using our PRIDDY BOOK, having some nice "Listening Time". It was storming outside, and I was videoing Christian, in hopes he would say PEEP or WHO for me. Instead, I caught a little miracle.

I realized that this was the first time my little boy heard thunder. Ever.

Starting today, I'm going to do my best to caption all videos placed on the site, not only to support of the DeafVillage, but to also give EVERYONE access to these videos, not just hearing folk.

Oh T!!! I just teared up!! How incredibly exciting! And also hilarious that as you were explaining thunder all he was concerned about was where Chuck is!

Oh my gosh -- that was a brilliant moment!

Totally amazing, isn't it? So many things we tend not to actively hear or push to the background(crickets, clocks, machines, thunder) and they pick them up so clearly!

You've nudged me -- I really ought to get the video camera going and capture the ordinary moments -- they are the ones that turn into special times like in this wonderful clip.

OH MY GOSH!! Girl, don't ever run out of batteries for that camera...you were lucky to catch that one on film! Brook's watching this w/me and she's cheering him on "thunder, thunder" she says! Who knew thunder would ever sound so good!?!?

Beautiful! What a great video moment. What are the chances of catching something like that???

I also love that he was looking for Daddy right away. Hahaha!

li-li nailed it. So often, Toes will point out sounds I don't even notice anymore. Like a bird singing or a train in the distance.

She makes me take a moment to savor it - and revel in the wonder of it *all*. The wonder of the world, of her, of her deafness and the technology that gave the world of sound to her and allowed us to share a moment such as that.

That you caught one of those moments on video is so precious. You will cherish that one.

Isn't it amazing? I'll never forget when Jazzie first heard birds chirping. This was something I had been taken for granted (in fact, it took me a while to figure out what she was hearing as she was pointing at her ear, because I wasn't even paying attention to it anymore). However, whenever I hear birds singing now, I remember that moment.

Wow! Talk about a "kodak moment." Getting that on tape was pretty amazing. He heard it and localized it- pretty wonderful stuff!

What a precious little guy. It was really cool that he turned in the direction of the window too. It seemed like he knew where the sound came from. You have a smart one on your hands. He is too cute.

Too cool! I just want to eat him up, T. Have you ever seen the Energizer commercial that's under the same premise - a boy's hearing aids are battery-powered by an Energizer battery, and the little boy hears the rain for the first time. Just like when I've watched that commercial, I just got the chills! Congrats on the milestone!!!
