We have no idea when we'll be eligible for the upgrade (no additional surgery is needed), but I am completely obsessed with Cochlear's NEW implant system, the Nucleus 5.
It has increased water resistance, which is my number one gripe concerning Christian's current CI (also made by Cochlear). It looks smaller, sleeker, and it has a lot of flexibility. I hope that the upgrade information is released soon so we can start to budget!
If you're going to be implanted with the Nucleus 5, or if you have a little one who will be, please keep me posted!

A New Coil Is On It's Way
I called Hear Always today (Cochlear's Customer Support), and ordered a new coil for Christian's CI per our audiologist's instructions. Ends up that H3 error is a warning sign that the coil is going bad.
The really wonderful customer service rep graciously explained how to switch out the magnet on the coil, but I still don't get it. So, parents of other Freedom kiddos, if you could please leave me a comment and give me some sort of idea on how to change the magnet out without totally wrecking the thing, I WOULD MUCH APPRECIATE IT!
