Day 2 Activation Update!

We had the second part of Christian's activation today, and it went really well. Our audiologist increased the volume on all of his programs. Yesterday, we gradually stepped up to each program every several hours. Now that his volumes are increased, we'll be gradually stepping up to each program over the course of the next week. The actual appointment went fantastic. We're going to officially start working on our "Ling Sounds". The Ling Sounds are "Ahhh", "Oooh", "Mmmm", "Ssss", and "Shhh". These sounds represent the sounds that you need access to to be able to hear speech. Christian actually did respond to our audi's voice, using one of the Ling sounds (You can see that in the second video below). The first video was taken during the volume adjustment.

*Be sure to stop the music on the right before playing the videos*

He's been a bit cranky, and a bit tired these past two days, but all in all he's doing great. We're working on keeping the ear piece on--it seems to fall off when he rubs his head against his carseat or his highchair. I went to the beauty supply store and got some Topstick toupee tape, so we'll see if that works :)

Oh that's awesome to hear!

Is his coil keep popping out or the earpiece? I assume that you have the Freedom like I do (I'm a Bilateral CI'er!), because of the koala. Have you tried the SnugFit? It seem to work very well for kids with the CI keep popping off the head. Also, I had to use it (even though I'm an adult), because it kept slipping off...it's because the coil cord is stiff, after a month or so, the coil cord conforms, and the CI ear piece stays on.

Good luck!! :-)

Your little guy is so cute! And doing so well! I think it is funny that you have to stay out of his way to keep from being hit by the toys he is waving around in his hand!

These videos are awesome! I can't believe all the noise he's making...he's picking up those sounds and shooting them back like an old pro! What a sharp little kid!!
He doesn't have a problem with the loudness of instruments at all, does he? He was really having a ball with those, it looked like :)

His coil is definitely not staying on as well as it should. I'm bringing it up at our 3rd appointment on Tuesday.

We are using the snugfit on the Nucleus, and with the help of Topstick wig tape, it's staying on :)
