It's nice to forget for awhile...

This weekend was one of those weekends that Christian's hearing loss wasn't at the forefront of my mind or heart. It was one of those weekends when we just were able to enjoy him and the crazy little toddler boy that he is.

We started the weekend at our very dear friend's Eastern Shore Bay house, which was full of laughter and little ones. Christian loved being on the beach, running around with the other kids, and getting into everything that he possibly could. He watched his first fireworks, swam, and didn't even stop to eat. He was so busy. Chuck and I were able to have some much needed adult time in the evening with the many friends who came to the house for the weekend.

The next morning after a very delicious breakfast (Thank You Dave!), we got in the car and drove to the Western Shore to our family's Bay House. With the help of Elmo (yes, we broke down and bought one of these on sale last week), the trip was relatively easy and painless. There we rested on the hammock, while Christian explored and played.

Whenever I chat with parents who have children that were recently diagnosed with a hearing loss, I always remind them to not let their child's hearing loss define them (very wise advice I received from a fabulous Mommy early on in my journey) and to take time to enjoy their children. It's STILL hard for us, 17 months later. With all of the therapy appointments, mapping sessions, and challenges that we experience, it IS hard to see past the hearing loss. Fortunately, weekends like this always seem to bring everything back into perspective.

Sounds like you've had a wonderful weekend. I'm really inspired by all of your CI success. Thanks so much for your comments and supports on my blog. I really could relate to that post you sent me about being a special mother. I pray for your continued success with Christian.
