And now....A Fever.

6am this morning I was woken up by a chorus of "Momma, Mommy, Momma, Mommy MOOOOOOOOM".

Lily.

101.2 temperature.

It's a school day today.

We're in the playroom on a 70 degree day pulling all of her dress-up clothes out, transforming from Tinkerbell, to Jasmine, to Cinderella, to Tiana, to a combination of a FireWoman-Spiderman superhero.

Pray that it's just a quick one, or I seriously am going to lose my mind.

Snowy Sick Day

My poor Lily. She got that glassy eyed/fussy/screaming baby thing going on yesterday. After running (I mean RUNNING) up to the pediatrician's office after we picked up Christian from school yesterday before they closed at 5pm, we learned she had a nasty virus complete with sores in her throat. I guess it's like Hand-Foot-Mouth only the winter version. UGH.

Christian went to school today. Lily and I have stayed in our PJs all day and watched the snow fall. We've watched about 14 episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I made a pumpkin pie while she was sleeping, and I even managed to get some work done. Chuck did both drop-off and pick-up today. My lifesaver.

Still managing to smile even on a sick day.

'Tis the Season

It's back to school time, and that only means one thing: SICKNESS.

In the middle of the craziness of getting to know our new schedules and traffic patterns in DC in the afternoon (FYI, Massachusetts Ave. after 3pm IS HORRIBLE!), Lily has come down with some virus that has caused her to have a bad tummy, wake up every hour on the hour for the past 3 nights, and be extremely irritable. Guess who is wearing sweats today?

I hope in between diaper changes, carpool runs and laundry loads I can post some updates about this past week. Christian has been having an absolutely awesome time in his new class.

Finally Well

Both kids were horribly sick last week. It actually was the first time that both of them were sick at the exact same time, making my life pretty much a living hell. I've been able to handle one at a time, and maybe little overlaps, but this was just an all out disaster. Poor Lily came down with a nasty virus, that left her waking up every hour on the hour for 4 days straight. She couldn't breathe, was feverish, and also had a painful ear infection. And Christian, had the gross virus, that then developed into the rash. He was just all out cranky during the day.

It was so hard to see both my kids so "off". Lily Grace is really such an easy going baby, and honestly, she never cries. And Christian, who is usually bouncing off the walls, laughing and making us all giggle, was listless, cranky, and weepy. It was just awful. Thank goodness Chuck (a.k.a Super Dad) was able to adjust his work schedule by working from home, coming home early, and going in late to help me out. He always has us in the #1 spot on his priority list, and we are so lucky to have him.

"No More Dirty Nose, Mommy"

Much to my dismay, Christian has been the kid with the constant yucky nose for over 5 months now. He's been on 4 courses of antibiotics, and various allergy medicines. Despite all the medicine, it would always come back.

We made an appointment with our wonderful ENT, and after one look up his nose, he diagnosed the problem. Christian has infected and enlarged adenoids which need to be removed. He explained that having them removed will not only help the nose issue, but help with his mouth breathing and sleep disturbances that we've been experiencing. He even suggested that while we aren't worried about his speech, having his adenoids removed could help pronunciation. The surgery is outpatient, but requires general anesthesia (which of course makes me nervous). The recovery time is fast, and the complications are rare.

I'm very angry that the possibility of an adenoid issue was never brought up to me by my pediatrician. You would think that after treating a kid 4 times with antibiotics that it would be a red flag. I really love our pediatrician, but the practice is so big and it's next to impossible to see the same doctor for each appointment. I know it's important to establish a good relationship with our doctor, especially with Christian's specific medical issues. I'm thinking about switching offices, in hopes of finding a smaller practice that can track these things a bit closer...just one more thing to add on my plate!

Moms Don't Get Sick...Yeah, Right.

So, here I am. 21 weeks pregnant. And I've had a fever for almost 48 hours that has ranged from 103.2 to 100.7. I've seen my primary doctor and my OB. I'm on a Z-Pack. I've had blood drawn, I've shivered non-stop, and I am SO OVER BEING SICK.

This is honestly the first time since I've had Christian that I've been down for the count. This time, I literally am. My OB has instructed me to pretty much stay in bed until the fever skips town. So, I'm on this constant cycle of getting a fever, taking Tylenol, having the fever break, sweat through my tank top, take a cold shower, take more tylenol, and wait for it all to happen again.

Oh, and did I mention that I have a TODDLER RUNNING AROUND TOO?

Thank God Chuck has played Mr. Mom since Saturday night. He has taken care of both Christian and I, and has been absolutely wonderful. He took off work, and was just a champ today.

The good news is that the baby is looking fine, and nothing should really hurt her as long as I rest and chill. I'm just hoping that I'm almost through with this nonsense.

The Croup is Crap.

Guess what we woke up to this morning? Christian coughing (more like barking) like a seal. This is my kid who NEVER gets sick. Good thing we were able to make it to the doctors, where both Daddy and son were treated. As a preventative measure, Hopkins was called to be sure he could be treated so soon after surgery (well, it has been almost 3 months) with oral steroids. We got the go ahead with that. Chuck I guess has adult croup, and is on 3 different medications.

So, here I am...taking care of both of my boys. Missing the O.A.R. concert we were supposed to go to (and our friend's little boy's baptism). The croup is crap.
